Brockton Man Abandoned Infant Daughter at Sight of Officers: Police

Wayne Mounce, 35, of Brockton​, received a summons for child endangerment and disturbing the peace​.

BROCKTON, MA — A man wanted by police abandoned his infant daughter after seeing officers approach him, police said.

Monday night, police received a report of drug use inside a car on North Montello Street. Police say an infant was in the car, according to the Enterprise.

After finding no one in the car, the caller met with police in a nearby store. Inside, the officers found the two suspects, who were in line with their infant daughter.

After the man went outside with the infant, police attempted to approach him, but he fled and jumped over a fence. Police were unable to apprehend him.

The infant's mother tried to leave with her, but police prevented her from leaving. While the mother denied drug use, police say her arms showed signs of drug use and drugs and paraphernalia could be seen in the car.

The mother, Nicole Picard, 34, of Rockland, was arrested and charged possession of fentanyl. The father, Wayne Mounce, 35, of Brockton, received a summons for child endangerment and disturbing the peace.

The Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
