Brockton Man Fended Off By 71-Year-Old He Road Raged On: Police

Police said Joseph Rivard punched the man in the face several times in the North Easton Savings Bank parking lot until the man fought back.

EASTON, MA — A 21-year-old man who attacked an elderly man in an fit of road rage in an Easton bank parking lot was fended off by the victim until he was arrested, police said.

Easton Police said Joseph Rivard, of Brockton, tried to pass the 71-year-old Medford man's car on Belmont Street when the cars collided and suffered minor damage. Rivard then followed the man into the North Easton Savings Bank parking lot and banged on the man's vehicle with his fists. When the man got out of the car, Rivard punched him in the face several times, police said.

Police said the man fought back in self-defense and was able to stop Rivard's attack.

The man suffered facial lacerations and was treated on scene. Rivard had minor swelling under his eye but did not need treatment.

Rivard was arrested and arraigned Wednesday morning in Taunton District Court on charges of assault and battery on a person over 60 and disturbing the peace. He was released on several conditions following a dangerousness hearing Thursday morning.
