Brockton Man Sentenced For 2015 Shooting On Oak Street

The Plymouth County DA's Office said Kelby Correira will serve at least eight years in prison for assault with intent to murder in 2015.

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man has been sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of assault with intent to murder in connection with a 2015 shooting on Oak Street. The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said Kelby Correira was found guilty last week of shooting a man in the leg outside of the Oak Street Convenience Store after a nine-hour jury deliberation.

Correira was found guilty of armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession and unlawful carrying of a firearm. Judge Angel Kelley sentenced Correira Wednesday morning to a minimum of eight years and up to 12 years in state prison with three years of probation.

"The year 2015 was a particular bad year for violence in the City of Boston," Plymouth County DA Tim Cruz said, "with nine murders being committed, five of which involved firearms. Prosecutions like today's against Mr. Correira send a strong message that we are all working together toward a common goal and will not be deterred from our mission of trying to keep the streets safe."
