BOSTON — A Brockton man was arrested Monday on gun charges after police said he threw a gun over a fence while trying to run away from officers in Jamaica Plain. Around 10:39 p.m, police were called to the 100 block of Heath Street, after a report of someone with a gun in the area.

When police arrived, they found a group of men, and one of them, later identified as Jakeal Upchurch, 18, ran down Heath Street towards Lawn Street. Police said they saw Upchurch throw something over a fence in a bush. After officers detained Upchurch, they found a loaded handgun in the bush.

Upchurch was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm large capacity, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Tuesday.
