Brockton Men Sentenced to Prison for Assaulting Man with Blowtorch

From the Plymouth County District Attorney's office:

Four Brockton men who badly beat and burned a man with a blow torch have been sentenced to serve four years in State Prison, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced last week.

Filomeno Monteiro, 26; Manuel Monteiro, 28; Michael Pires, 27; and Jason Ribeiro, 27; each pled guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, and witness Intimidation. Judge Cornelius J. Moriarty sentenced each to serve four years to four years and a day in State Prison to be followed by three years of probation for a Kidnapping charge.

On October 11, 2011, the male victim in this case, who was hired by Nuno Alves to paint his house, went to a Brockton apartment to collect the $300 Alves owed him. The victim was invited into the apartment where a total of seven men were present. The victim was blindsided and beaten by the men inside the apartment with fists and a shot foot. At times, several males were involved in the attack. The victim was strangled, his wrists and legs were duct taped and he was burned on his back with a blow torch. During the attack, the men threatened the victim that if they went to jail, they would harm the man’s daughters. After the attack, the men sent the victim away and he contacted Brockton Police. Police presented a series of photo arrays to the victim, where he was able to identify these four co-defendants as participants in the group of seven men who attacked him.

Two other defendants, Alves and Monteiro, are next scheduled to appear in court on June 6, 2016.

In addition to the above sentences, Manuel Monteiro and Ribeiro were additionally sentenced to serve two years in the House of Corrections to run concurrent for Possession of Ammunition.
