BROCKTON, MA — With the school year winding down and high school sports hitting the pause button for the summer, Planet Fitness has made it free for teenagers ages 15 to 18 to work out this summer. Both Brockton gyms at 715 Crescent St. and 200 Westgate Drive are two of the 69 Massachusetts Planet Fitness gyms letting kids stay in shape free of charge all summer. The free workout sessions last until Sept. 1.

The company's "Teen Summer Challenge" started as a test in New Hampshire in 2018 and was expanded nationwide this year. The company said 2,500 New Hampshire teens logged 12,000 gym visits during the challenge last year.

"We want to give teens the chance to stay active when school is out — a time when they may not otherwise have access to organized fitness or athletic programs, which is why we're offering a safe space to exercise for free and spend time with their friends all summer long," said Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau in a statement.
