Brockton Woman Faces Drug, Gun Charges After Crash: State Police
State Police said Serena Silva, of Brockton, and Savon Gonsalves, of Fall River, were found with a loaded gun and Fentanyl bags on Route 24.

BROCKTON, MA – A Brockton woman and Fall River man are facing gun and drug charges after State Police said a crash investigation on Route 24 in Taunton uncovered a loaded weapon and plastic bags full of Fentanyl. Serena Silva, 19, of Brockton and Savon Gonsalves, 20, of Fall River were arrested with Gonsalves ordered held without bail Wednesday night.
Police said Gonsalves was driving while impaired and had an active warrant out for his arrest on a probation violation when he made an unsafe lane change that contributed to the two-car crash about 9:30.
Police said State Trooper Matthew Ditata was talking with Silva, a passenger in the Nissan Gonsalves was driving, when he saw a gun in a bag she removed from the car. Police said they then found a Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun with a round in the chamber. Police said they also found multiple plastic bags containing what was believed to be fentanyl and $2,027 in cash. Police discovered Gonsalves had the warrant out on a probation violation from prior gun and drug charges.

Gonsalves was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to violate a drug law, fentanyl trafficking, possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, possession of a large-capacity firearm feeding device, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, gun possession while in commission of a felony, gun possession without a license, carrying a loaded firearm and a marked lane violation.
Silva was charged with conspiracy to violate a drug law, fentanyl trafficking, possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, possession of a large-capacity firearm feeding device, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm without a license and carrying a loaded firearm.

Silva was given $2,500 bail and both were scheduled for arraignment in Taunton District Court Thursday morning.
