Building in Brockton Seven-Alarm Fire Comes Down

Brockton, MA—An abandoned building that was the site of a massive seven-alarm fire was ordered to come down Friday.

Brockton Fire Chief Michael Williams told reporters that the building is a complete loss and must be torn down immediately.

Late Thursday night, fire crews responded to the blaze at the building. Fire officials say the blaze was started after a car repair that occurred inside the building went wrong.

21 pieces of equipment were needed to fight the flames. Seven nearby buildings were damaged by the heat but they can be occupied, according to Mayor Bill Carpenter.

One minor injury to a firefighter was reported.
