'Burn Boston Burn' Author Reading To Benefit Brockton Fire Museum

Author Wayne Miller will hold a lecture, video and reading Thursday from his book about a massive Boston arson conspiracy in the 1980s.

BROCKTON, MA — The story of a massive arson conspiracy in Boston during the 1980s will come to Brockton to help support the Brockton Fire Museum on Thursday. Wayne Miller, whose book "Burn Boston Burn" chronicles what is claimed to be the "largest arson case in the history in the history of the country," will host a lecture, video and reading from the book at the Brockton Fire Fighters Local 144 from 6 p.m.

Proceeds from a $5 donation and a cash bar will go toward the Brockton Fire Museum. Retired WBZ video journalist Nat Whittemore, whose video helped break the case, will also be at the event to participate in the talk.

"Burn Boston Burn" tells the story of a conspiracy that included nine men, including three Boston police officers and a Boston firefighter, who set hundreds of fires in Boston and surrounding communities to protest cuts in the departments. Over two years, the book said "these fire buffs turned arsonists" set fire to 264 buildings and caused millions of dollars of damage.

Miller is a retired ATF special agent who worked the case for three years. Whittemore was able to help break the case when his camera caught a Boston police officer waving his gun in the air during a massive fire like he was at a rodeo. According to the book, the case included a stolen police car dumped in Boston Harbor, a threat letter consisting of cut-out letters and plans to murder witnesses.

There are limited spots remaining for the event. Those wishing to attend can reserve them here.
