Family Found Dead In Abington Condo Identified

Two parents, their 9-year-old twins and 11-year-old daughter were found with gunshot wounds.

ABINGTON, MA — A man, woman and three children were found dead with gunshot wounds Monday morning in their Abington condo, Plymouth Country District Attorney Tim Cruz said. Cruz identified the victims as Deirdre Zaccardi, 40, Joseph Zaccardi, 43 Alexis Zaccardi, 11 and twins Nathaniel and Kathryn Zaccardi, 9.

The family was found by a relative who came to the condo to pick up one of the kids for school. Police received the call at 7:30 a.m., but the deaths might have occurred overnight, officials said. Cruz did not confirm where the bodies of the family were found within the home but confirmed one adult was found downstairs on the couch.

Neighbors in the condominium complex were solemn and did not want to comment on the deaths.

The Abington School District released a statement confirming the three children found dead were students in the district. The district said they died unexpectedly last night. The statement reads in part, "Their presence touched so many lives and there are no words to express the sadness we feel." Grief counselors will be available for students in the district

"When something like this, unimaginable like this, there's more questions than answers," Cruz said.

There were no previous police calls from the condo, Cruz said.

"It's a horrific event that nobody should ever see," Abington Police Chief David Majenski said.

Police and first responders were at the Central Street condo throughout the morning and said they do not believe there is a threat to the public. Police are investigating the deaths and are not ruling out a murder-suicide.
