Gun, Drugs Found During Brockton Traffic Stop: Police

Two Brockton men face drug and weapons charges after being pulled over Thursday.

BROCKTON, MA – Two Brockton men were arrested Thursday after police allegedly found a gun and drugs in their car during a traffic stop. Faustino Mendes, 22, and Gildo Cardoso, 22, both face drug and weapons charges.

Around 7 p.m. Thursday evening, police noticed a dark blue Infiniti sedan on North Cary Street cross over the median into oncoming traffic to speed past other vehicles in front of it. Brockton police contacted state police troopers, who pulled the car over on Provost Street. Police said the location is known to the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit as the site of a past shooting.

According to police, troopers approaching the car saw the passenger in the front seat allegedly bent forward as if concealing something. Police spoke to the passenger, identified as Mendes, and said he appeared to be very nervous. He was asked to step out of the car, and troopers found a black Beretta ArmiRoma semiautomatic 7.64-caliber pistol partially sticking out from under the front passenger seat, according to state police. He was arrested without incident.
