Man Armed With Hatchet Shot By Brockton Police: Report

State Police confirmed a police officer was involved in a shooting. The Brockton Enterprise reported the man police shot wielded a hatchet.

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton police officer shot a man armed with a hatchet Wednesday, the Brockton Enterprise reported. The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on Main Street near North Main Street. Witnesses said they saw the man carrying a hatchet, heard five gunshots and saw the man being taken away in an ambulance.

State Police confirmed a police officer was involved in a shooting, but have not given further information into the details of the shooting or the severity of the man's injuries. The Plymouth County District Attorney's office and State Police said they are investigating the shooting.
