Man Charged With Assaulting Brockton Officer
A store employee told police the suspect tried stealing from customers

BROCKTON, MA — A Brockton man was arrested after police said he assaulted an officer after they confronted him for causing a commotion at a convenience store.
Shawn Peete, 27, was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, trespassing, threatening to commit a crime, and disturbing the peace.
A little before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to Star Food Mart on Hovendon Avenue. A store employee told police Peete tried stealing from customers. Peete had left the store, but police said a witness helped them find the suspect, who was in the driveway of a nearby house.

When police questioned Peete, he grabbed an officer's jacket and refused to let go, according to police. When officers tried to handcuff him, police said Peete continued to fight and verbally threatened the officers before they were able to restrain him.
