WEST BRIDGEWATER, MA — A local man is being lauded as a hero after risking his own life to save four others from a burning car.

It was Wednesday morning. Ross Dugan was on Route 24, driving home from working the night shift. Around 6:30 a.m., Dugan saw a car burst into flames, he told WHDH. The car was part of a four-car crash, which caused it to catch fire.

Four people remained trapped inside. He didn't see anyone get out of the car, so he rushed over to help. When Dugan got to the car, he told WHDH he saw the four people banging on the windows, trying their hardest to get out. Dugan yanked the window out, which allowed three people to get out, but he couldn't reach the fourth person as the fire was too hot for him to get close. Fortunately, another person came over with a fire extinguisher, allowing the fourth person to escape.
