Whitman Man Killed in Route 3 Crash in NH
NHSP: Michael Higgins of Whitman, MA, died after his Camry crossed over the yellow line, collided with an SUV; alcohol may be a factor.

HOLDERNESS, NH - A Massachusetts man succumbed to injuries he sustained in an automobile collision on March 10, 2016, on Route 3 in Holderness.
Michael Higgins, 56 of Whitman, MA, died after his Toyota Camry reportedly crossed over the double yellow line at just before 1 p.m. and collided with a Nissan Murano, being driven by a woman from Alton.
According to New Hampshire State Police, Holderness Police and Fire and Rescue teams were sent to the area of Marston Road for the crash. Higgins sustained “serious life threatening injuries” and was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital where she was treated for relatively minor injuries, according to Sgt. Steven Wheeler of the NHSP.

The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit responded to the scene and based on the team investigation, “(Higgins) appeared to have crossed over the solid yellow lines and into the travel lane of the Nissan Murano resulting in a mostly head-on collision.”
At this time it appears that alcohol was a factor in this crash however all aspects remain under investigation, according to Wheeler. The roadway was closed for about four hours. Troop F troopers, Center Harbor, Ashland, and Holderness Police and Holderness Fire and Rescue teams and the office of the Medical Examiner all assisted at the scene.
