Brockton Fire At 5 Alarms, But Under Control: Mayor
Firefighters were battling a commercial building fire in Brockton Saturday afternoon.

BROCKTON, MA — A five-alarm fire that was raging for hours Saturday in a former woodworking building is under control. Mayor Bill Carpenter said around 6:15 p.m. that while crews will be at the scene for awhile longer, firefighters are now on top of it.
The fire is across from Brockton Hospital. Route 123 is closed to traffic, Carpenter said.
Firefighters arrived to find a commercial building ablaze in the unit block of Brockton Avenue, Brockton Fire reported around 3:20 p.m.

Crews from several nearby towns responded to the scene despite temperatures in the single digits.
The fire was located at the old Beaver Wordworking Building, according to Whitman Fire officials, who were on the scene to assist.
