Neighbors Rescue Pilot After Plane Crash Into Icy Halifax Water

A plane crashed into the water at Twin Lakes​ off Lake Street in Halifax.

HALIFAX, MA — A small plane crashed into the water at Twin Lakes, according to police. Police said the plane crashed Saturday into the east lake off Lake Street.

Police said the pilot was not injured and was rescued from the water by residents. One of the rescuers told WBZ-TV they borrowed a neighbor's canoe and broke through the icy water to make their way out to the pilot.

Rescuers spent 10 minutes breaking through the ice just to get to the plane.

"Neighbors did an amazing job," Fire Chief Jason Viveiros told reporters. "They got to him very quickly."
