BROCKTON, MA — A Montello Street store found to be selling synthetic marijuana has been shut down for 21 months, Mayor Bill Carpenter said.
The mayor announced Friday that the Board of Health has voted to revoked the license for Montello Express Gas and King Fried Chicken for 630 days following an investigation by the board and the Brockton Police Department.

During a safety inspection Thursday afternoon, 119 bags of synthetic marijuana, weighing more than 20 pounds, were discovered and seized from the store. Carpenter says the move was a response to numerous complaints about the illegal sale of synthetic marijuana, also known as K-2 or Spice at both establishments at 158 Montello St.
“We will aggressively enforce all ordinances and regulations to protect the public from these dangerous substances. Today’s action should send a clear message to all establishments in Brockton that we will not tolerate the sale of synthetic drugs,” Carpenter said in a release.
