Seven State Lawmakers Call for Delay on Brockton Casino Vote

The group says a Brockton casino could lead to a tax-exempt tribal casino in Taunton.

BROCKTON, MA - Seven Massachusetts legislators are calling on the state's Gaming Commission to not vote on a proposed casino in Brockton, arguing that it would leave an opening for a tax-exempt tribal casino in Taunton.

In a letter to the commission, the lawmakers asked for the vote to be postponed according to the Boston Globe. The commission is expected to vote on the casino during the upcoming week.

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe recently broke ground on a $1 billion casino in Taunton. The tribe does not need the state's blessing to build a casino and would not have to pay state taxes if the commission were to give their blessing to a Brockton casino.
