Tests Show Elevated Levels of Lead and Copper at Gilmore Early Childhood Center

The sources of water with high readings have been disconnected.

BROCKTON, MA — A test of the water at Brockton’s 23 public school buildings shows that there are elevated levels of lead and copper at the Gilmore Early Childhood Center.

Of the 2,400 water samples were taken at the buildings, the first result showed five samples with elevated lead levels at the Gilmore Early Childhood Center, one sample with both elevated lead and copper levels, and one sample with elevated copper, only, out of a total of 76 samples, according to a Dec. 21 press release from the school district.

A school plumber immediately disconnected the water source. The school district said the the source of lead and copper at the school came from the fixtures and not the water supply.
