BROCKTON, MA — A 57-year-old man backed into a gas pump Wednesday night, sparking a blaze, Brockton fire officials said.
Just before midnight, firefighters were called to the Prime gas station on North Montello Street. The gas station's security footage showed a Subaru Impreza crush the gas pump and instantly set it ablaze.
The driver told police he wasn't familiar with the car and accidentally backed into the pump. Police told the Brockton Enterprise the driver tried to get closer to the pump, but lost control when he went in reverse and struck the pump. The man then drove across the street to call 911, police said.
