[UPDATE] Brookline Shooting: Two Shot, One Stabbed, Suspects On Loose

Three elementary schools were placed on lockdown while police investigated multiple crime scenes.

BROOKLINE, MA - Two men were shot and a third stabbed Wednesday, and police are searching for two suspects who fled multiple crime scenes in the usually docile neighborhood.

“It is very rare that this happens, but by the same token we’re ready for things like this,” Brookline police chief Daniel O’Leary said in an afternoon press conference in front of a St. Paul Street residence where the bloody chain of events were believed to have been ignited.

Three elementary schools were on lockdown as the incident unfolded. Students at Lawrence School, Pierce School and St. Mary’s elementary in Brookline were required to stay indoors. The schools were dismissed at their usual times.

The violence started at 198 St. Paul Street, where one victim was found shot and stabbed in the apartment building, O’Leary said. Four other men took off in a white Ford Focus.

The car then stopped a few blocks away and two of the men, one of whom was shot and stabbed and another at least stabbed, either fell or were thrown out in front of 75 Harvard Street.

The three victims, whom police said were stable, have had interactions with law enforcement in different communities, O’Leary said. He would not comment on if they had criminal records.

Two suspects were still on the loose, one in the car and one on foot, O’Leary said.

The vehicle was found in Boston unoccupied, police said Wednesday night.

The Ford Focus was rented in New Jersey. Police released two photographs of the vehicle (above) before finding it.

This is a developing story, check back for more details as they become available.
