2 Brookline High Students Named Siemens Science, Math, Technology Semifinalists

BROOKLINE, MA – Two students at Brookline High School have been named Siemens Competition semifinalists this year.

Makena Binker Cosen and Amir Siraj are among 19 Massachusetts students to receive the honor. The competition is the nation's premier math, science and technology contest for high school students, awarding college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 yearly.

Students may submit individual and team research projects to regional and national levels of competition; this year, of the more than 1600 projects submitted, 498 students have been selected as semifinalists. Next, the group will be judged to determine who advances to six regional competitions in November, followed by the National Finals in December.

The competition will culminate in a ceremony at George Washington University, where a total of $500,000 in scholarships – including two top prizes of $100,000 – will be awarded.
