Hero Dies After Helping Residents Escape Huge Fire in Brighton

The four-alarm fire engulfed a pair of three-deckers on Murdock Street Thursday morning.

A man died while helping residents escape a huge fire in Brighton Thursday morning.


The Boston Fire Department said the blaze started in a three-decker at 105 Murdock St. and spreading to a three-decker next door at 107 Murdock St. Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn told Boston.com the victim helped people get out of one of the burning buildings. His body was found in the basement; Finn said he may have become disoriented from all the smoke. He was not immediately identified.

Five firefighters and two residents suffered minor injuries, according to the fire department. The blaze caused about $850,000 worth of damage to both buildings. In a preliminary investigation, the fire appears to have started in a kitchen and was ruled accidental.
