Brookline Park Reopens After Year-long Renovation

The project featured a redesigned playground.

BROOKLINE, MA — A neighborhood park has reopened after a comprehensive renovation that added a redesigned playground, improved accessibility and new recreational amenities.

The Brookline Department of Public Works announced that Lotta Bradburn Schick Park officially reopened to the public on Friday, July 10, following a renovation that was shaped through several years of community planning and design meetings. Construction on the project began in July 2025.

The redesigned playground features separate play structures for children ages 2 to 5 and ages 5 to 12, along with two new swing sets, poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing and a picnic pavilion with tables. A new three-foot fence separates the playground from the lawn, while an accessible sloped walkway now connects the play area to the basketball court.

The project also added a loop path around the lawn, rebuilt the entrance steps across from Addington Path with new stone walls, installed a new irrigation system and added benches, a drinking fountain with a bottle filler, Bigbelly trash receptacles and new native trees and shrubs throughout the park.

To protect the newly planted grass, Green Dog hours will remain suspended until the end of the growing season. The town expects the off-leash program to return in late fall and said participants will be notified when it resumes.

Parks and Open Space Director Milee Pradhan said the renovated park reflects the community's vision for an improved playground, basketball court, walking paths, lawn space and additional seating.

"We are pleased to welcome the community to the newly renovated Lotta Bradburn Schick Park," Pradhan said in the announcement.

Town officials also plan to host a community celebration at the park this fall featuring activities for families.
