📰 News we're reading

• Brookline Police Detective Retires After 25 Years Of Service (patch.com) — Brookline residents are saying goodbye to Detective David Wagner, who is retiring after 25 years with the town's police department and more than 37 years in law enforcement. Widely respected as a mentor and community-focused officer, Wagner led major investigations, earned multiple commendations, and was known for compassionate gestures, including helping a young heart surgery patient experience a special visit with Brookline police.

• Film Review: "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma" (artsfuse.org) — Brookline film lovers can catch Jane Schoenbrun's new horror-infused drama Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, alongside several Boston and Cambridge cinemas. The review praises its inventive spin on slasher tropes, exploring identity, sexuality, and cinephile obsession through a filmmaker's eerie visit to a reclusive former "final girl" at the original camp location.

• These are the best high schools in Mass. in 2026, according to U.S. News (boston.com) — Brookline residents can take pride that Brookline High School is ranked among the top 20 public high schools in Massachusetts in U.S. News & World Report's 2026 list. The rankings, led again by Boston Latin School, weigh college readiness, test performance, underserved student outcomes, and graduation rates, and show Massachusetts schools performing especially well nationally across both general and STEM categories.
