ARRESTS: Two Charged with Huffing on St. Paul’s Street

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Joseph Joy, 46, of Roxbury, was arrested at 12:35 p.m. on March 2, on a warrant. Officers were called to the Walgreens on Harvard Street for an assault report with a man leaving the scene on a bicycle. The man, Joy, was located on Kent Street and questioned. Joy reportedly told police that he was at the store, had left his bike there, and someone grabbed his shoulder and told him he couldn’t leave his bike in the store. Joy allegedly stated he was unhappy that he was being grabbed and left the store. “He stated that he never touched (the other person),” the officer reported. At the store, other officers spoke with an employee at the store who stated that it was store policy not to have the bikes in the store due to a previous incident. The woman told Joy twice but he allegedly didn’t acknowledge her because he had headphones on. She tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention and Joy allegedly turned to her and pushed her with two hands, and told her not to touch him, according to the employee. The woman said she didn’t want to press charges but Joy had a default warrant out of Cambridge District Court for threats to commit a crime and trespassing and he was arrested.

Xiaoy Liu, 32, of Waltham, was arrested at 4:27 p.m. on March 2, and charged with operating after suspension. She was also cited for a left turn violation. While on Beacon Street an officer observed an Audi taking a left hand turn where one isn’t allowed. The car was stopped on Park Drive. Dispatch reported that the driver, Liu, had a suspended license. Other officers arrived and she was arrested.

Joseph Baron, 60, of Needham, was arrested at 11:56 a.m. on March 3, for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, one-way violation, unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and attaching plates. An officer in Coolidge Corner observed a Volvo pull into a metered space and then back into Beals Street facing the wrong direction on a one-way street. The vehicle then exited the wrong way again and turned left onto Harvard Street. The vehicle was stopped near Williams Street. The driver, Baron, handed the officer a license and a registration for a minivan, and reportedly explained that he had purchased the vehicle on Feb. 27. Dispatch reported that Baron’s license expired on Oct. 17, 2013, and that the VIN number of the vehicle had cancelled plates. Baron was arrested.

Annie Williams, 42, of the Fenway, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. on March 4, and charged with OUI liquor. An officer was called to the Boylston and High streets area for a Toyota Camry driving erratically. The officer found the vehicle and pulled it over at a bus stop near Walnut Street. The driver, Williams, was asked for her license and registration and reportedly gave the officer an insurance card. Williams allegedly rifled through her purse looking for her license and registration and removed all its contents. It allegedly took her about five minutes to find the documents, according to the report. “I noticed vomit on Williams' right leg and lap area (and) inquired if there were any medical concerns in which I should be made aware of, to which she stated ‘no,’” the officer wrote. Williams reportedly stated that it was mushrooms on her lap, not vomit, allegedly slurring her speech. Her eyes were also glassy, according to the officer. Williams agreed to field sobriety tests and was later arrested. A lieutenant reported during booking that Williams allegedly had a “strong odor of intoxicating liquor” and had “vomited on her shirt and pants.” She was also cited for a marked lanes violation.

Shawn Marks, 23, of Braintree, and Nadia Babyonyshev, 44, of Brookline, were arrested at 12:23 a.m. on March 5, and charged with inhaling a toxic substance. A lieutenant and an officer in an unmarked car reportedly saw a Dodge Charger on Ewe Street “traveling slowly” on the street and later, parking on St. Paul Street while partially blocking the road. They approached the vehicle and allegedly saw Marks “holding a black object in his left hand near his face” and upon seeing the police, “frantically removed the object form his face and began concealing it under the driver’s seat,” according to the report. Not knowing what the object was, police requested that he put the car in park and get out of it, which he did. At the same time, Babyonyshev was allegedly attempting to conceal a large blue nitrous tank between her legs. Later in the investigation, police alleged that there was a large amount of frozen crystals built up on the outside of the tank and there was a marijuana pipe on the floor of the car. They were both arrested.
