Beware of Possible IRS Scam, Warns Brookline PD

Brookline residents are warned to be cautious of suspicious phone calls.

After two reports this week, Brookline police are warning residents to watch out for a potential phone scam.

On Monday, a local resident contacted police after receiving a phone call from a man claiming to be from the IRS. The man had informed the woman that she owed money and that if she didn’t pay that day, she would be placed under arrest.

Yesterday, a similar incident was reported in which a woman received two calls from a man claiming to be in the IRS. Again, the man demanded that she immediately repay money that she owed or she would face arrest. Police responded to the scene, and believe that these calls are part of a scam.
