Brookline Adult Education Tightens Belt During Pandemic
With in-person learning impossible during the pandemic, BA&CE had to pivot their endless menu of classes to remote education.

This week's guest on BrooklineHub In-Depth is Brookline Adult and Community Education (BA&CE) director Michelle McGlone. This organization is one of the oldest non-credit public education programs in Massachusetts. Adult education has been part of the Brookline community since 1821, beginning with the formation of the Brookline Lyceum Society.
With in-person learning impossible during the pandemic, BA&CE, like many other organizations, had to pivot their endless menu of classes to remote education. At the beginning of the pandemic, BA&CE had to refund all its in-person courses and then work with the Brookline Schools IT department to get as many classes online quickly as possible. "The virus itself took a huge toll on us, we lost a significant amount of revenue, and unfortunately, we had to reduce our staff by letting a couple of people go and reduce hours to part-time," McGlone said. "We are doing our very best to maintain the same level of service and the same level of classes with fewer people and fewer hours to do it."
The interview with Brookline Adult and Community Education's Michelle McGlone premieres on "BrooklineHub In-Depth" on Monday, September 27.
