Brookline Car Theft Warning After Attempted Burglary Caught On Tape

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline police are advising residents to lock their cars, remove valuables from them, and install additional theft deterrents such as alarms, steering wheel locks, and surveillance cameras, if possible after reported recent theft attempts.
Police shared footage of someone in the lower Beacon Street area checking car handles in a driveway to see if they were left unlocked as part of the warning message issued on Wednesday.

Avoid keeping valuable items visible inside the car, as this can attract unwanted attention.
Consider installing motion-activated security cameras to alert you via text message when movement is detected.
If at all possible, try to park in a well-lit area of your property within view of your window to increase visibility.
Implementing even one of these suggestions can significantly reduce the chances of your car being burglarized while parked in your own driveway.
