Brookline To Celebrate Small Business Saturday

Don't forget to go out and support the local mom and pop shops around town this season.

BROOKLINE, MA — This weekend is Small Business Saturday in town. Although relatively new, the annual holiday shopping tradition encourages folks to buy local ahead of the big gift shopping season. With giant shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday ruled by the big guys, this is an effort to help keep mom and pops in business.

"Brookline offers a variety of local businesses, personal customer service, and everything one needs within walking distance. And, shopping in Brookline is an investment in our community," said Debbie Miller of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce.

Earlier this month the Select Board proclaimed it a holiday. Several businesses will be giving out tote bags and other freebies. Brookline Bank at Coolidge Corner will be hosting a welcome area.

American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in town.
