Brookline Cop Out for Morning Coffee Catches Fugitive

The following is an excerpt from the Brookline police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

A Brookline police officer out for a morning cup of coffee Sunday helped catch a fugitive.

Sgt. Matt McDonnell said he was hired for a private detail and was getting coffee on Beacon Street at about 10:30 a.m. He said he saw Mikhail Arakelyan, a West Roxbury resident with warrants for larceny, inside the store. As he radioed Brookline dispatch to send a cruiser out, Arakelyan allegedly ran away.

A foot pursuit ensued and Arakelyan was apprehended by responding officers. The 30-year-old was placed under arrest. He also had warrants for conspiracy and receiving stolen property, police said.
