Brookline Drunk Driver with Pot Busted During IHOP Run, Cops Say

Jimmy Ortiz, 44, of Wakefield, was charged with OUI, running a red light, and marijuana possession.

A Wakefield man was drunk and had marijuana in his car as he attempted a late-night IHOP run in Brookline over the weekend, police said.

Jimmy Ortiz, 44, of Wakefield, never made it to the restaurant. He was stopped by police and charged with OUI, running a red light, and marijuana possession.

Police said on Sunday about 1 a.m., officers saw Ortiz blow through a red light on Washington Street. Officers pulled him over and said they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Ortiz's 2013 Honda Accord. Officers said his eyes were blood-shot and glassy.

Ortiz said he was on his way to IHOP. Officers performed a field sobriety test then placed him under arrest.
