Brookline Edges Closer to 9th School Site: Report
The Brookline Board of Selectmen and School Committee met with residents Tuesday for an update on the selection process.

BROOKLINE, MA – The Brookline Board of Selectmen and School Committee met Tuesday for the latest update on the selection process for Brookline's ninth school.
Architectural firm Jonathan Levi Architects laid out the options for three potential sites: the Stop & Shop on Harvard Street, known as the Village School, Baker School on Beverly Road and the Baldwin/Soule site.
According to the Brookline TAB, there are three possibilities for adapting the Baker School site to accommodate new school - create a shared parking lot and field for the two schools; separate the drop off locations, put parking underground, and build a new building across from the Baker School, creating a larger shared field space; or connect the two schools, which would leave the largest field space.

The TAB reported that the architects suggested two options for the Baldwin/Soule site - design the new school around the existing Baldwin School building or demolish the Baldwin School and build an atrium, which was estimated to cost less.
Lastly, the architects posited four options for the Stop & Shop on Harvard Street, a site that has generated the most backlash among residents. According to the TAB report, two of these options would adapt the supermarket space, while the other two would incorporate the gas station and car wash.

Next, the town will expand on these proposals by developing cost estimates, reviewing the constraints of each site and polishing the initial concepts.
A joint board meeting, open to the public, will be held September 8.
