Brookline To Host Virtual Event In Honor Of MLK

The event will take place on Monday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. via Zoom.

BROOKLINE, MA — The Town of Brookline will celebrate the life and values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a free virtual event on Monday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m.

The event, hosted by Brookline’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee and sponsored by the Brookline Community Foundation, will be streamed on Brookline Interactive Group’s Civic Channel 3 on RCN and Comcast. It will also be available live on BIG’s online channel and recorded for later streaming here.

The program will feature Boston University Professor Robert L. Tsai as the keynote speaker, an original poetry performance from literary performer and author Regie Gibson, a poetry reading from Brookline Poet Laureate Jennifer C. Barber, and a video compilation of Remote Learning Academy students reading their winning submissions of a collaborative contest held in March 2020. There will also be music and inspirational words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On MLK Day, community members can also participate in a virtual Brookline Day of Service Project at 11 a.m., during which four panelists will share their own experiences as immigrants and join a conversation with Welcome Blanket Brookline’s Hadassah Margolis in a conversation on the status of immigration in Brookline.
