Brookline Libraries To Begin Requiring Masks This Week
The change is being made due to the increased spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

BROOKLINE, MA — As of Monday, the Public Library of Brookline will require all visitors to wear masks while inside library buildings, according to a statement released Friday.
The change is being made due to the increased spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, which has proved to be even more contagious than previous versions.
“While we know this isn’t the progress we hoped for earlier this summer, we believe that this is the right step at this time,” said Library Director Sara Slymon in a letter to the community. “Above all, we want everyone to feel safe and welcome at the town’s libraries. We all made a lot of sacrifices in the last year-and-a-half, and while nobody is happy about this change at this time, it’s a small step that we hope can make a big difference when paired with increased vaccination within our community.”

The new requirement applies top both unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals, said Slymon. Library staff will continue to wear masks as well until further notice.
Brookline's libraries serve approximately 1,600 patrons daily. Library staff will be available Monday to answer any questions about the new guidance.
