Brookline Police Imposter Warning As Scam Reports Increase

Brookline police said residents have reported getting calls asking for money from purported officers with names and badge numbers.

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline police are warning residents about an uptick in scams involving callers claiming to be police officers — complete with names and badge numbers — and requesting payments.

"We will never call and ask you for money," police said. "If you receive a call from someone identifying themselves as a police officer, please don't send them anything or give them any personal information."

Police said that if they believe a call may be legitimate ask for their information and then call police at 617-730-2222 to verify it.

"You all work hard for what you have," police said. "Don't give any of it away to scammers."
