Brookline School Committee, Educators Union Ratify Agreement

BROOKLINE, MA — The Brookline School Committee and the Brookline Educators Union have formally ratified the memorandum of agreement for the reopening of schools in the 2021-22 school year, said Superintendent Linus Guillory in an update Friday.

According to the agreement, staff represented by the BEU are required to get the COVID-19 vaccine and submit proof by November 1. Medical and religious exemptions are available, but must be approved by school officials. Those who are exempted from COVID-19 vaccination are required to provide one negative PCR test per work week as a condition of employment.

In addition, the district has invested in technology and training for teachers to be able to livestream lessons for students who are absent due to COVID-19. However, educators represented by the BEU are not required to actively engage absent students.

The School Committee and the BEU also agreed to the extension of the district's COVID-19 temporary emergency temporary emergency paid sick leave program through the end of June 2022. This means the district will provide full pay to teachers absent due to COVID-19.
