Brookline Symphony Orchestra Announces Maestro Altenbach’s 10th Anniversary Concert Season

The Brookline Symphony Orchestra, led by acclaimed Music Director Andrew Altenbach, is thrilled to announce its 2026-2027 concert season, a celebration of the maestro’s 10^th season with the organization.

This season, audiences will enjoy symphonies by Méhul, Sibelius, Mozart, Schubert, and Tchaikovsky, alongside resonant works by Ravel, Debussy, and Mayer. Highlights of the season include a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, featuring Altenbach at the piano, and a newly commissioned piece by Brookline composer Will Cooper. The season will also spotlight two cellists: 2026 Bouix Concerto Competition winners Miles Edwards and Aron Zelkowicz.

The Brookline Symphony Orchestra opens the season with “French Adventures: From Fairy Tales to the Sea” on Saturday, October 24 with Étienne Méhul’s Symphony No. 1, Maurice Ravel’s Ma mère l'Oye (Mother Goose), and Claude Debussy’s La Mer. Continuing into 2027, the winter concert “Farewell and Fortitude” takes place Saturday, January 16, and features two symphonies: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 32 and Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. The program also presents Aron Zelkowicz performing Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

On Saturday, March 13, and Sunday, March 14, the orchestra will present “Unfinished Business”, a double-concert weekend containing Emilie Mayer’s Faust Overture and Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 "Unfinished". The centerpiece of the program will be a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto by three of the Brookline Symphony Orchestra’s own musicians. The piece will showcase Concertmaster Jean Huang Baverstam, Principal Cellist Stephanie Wingfield, and Maestro Altenbach conducting from the piano.

The celebrations continue with “Fate, Fantasy, and Fireworks”, another double-concert weekend on Saturday, May 8, and Sunday, May 9. The program includes the world premiere of a new composition by the Brookline-based award-winning classical composer Will Cooper. In addition, Brookline Symphony Orchestra cellist Miles Edwards will perform Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1. The evening will conclude with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous Symphony No. 5.

The 2026-2027 season concludes Sunday, June 13, with the Summer Pops Concert.

All Brookline Symphony Orchestra concerts will take place at All Saints Parish (1773 Beacon St, Brookline, MA 02445). Tickets are $20-25 general admission, $15 seniors, $10 students, and free for children 12 & under. EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cardholders can purchase $5 admission to concerts for up to 4 people.
