Brookline's Tommy Vitolo Gets MA AFL-CIO Endorsement

The president of the Massachusetts Labor union gave his support for Vitolo for State Rep.

From the Office of Tommy Vitolo, Candidate for State Representative: The Massachusetts AFL-CIO has endorsed Tommy Vitolo's candidacy for State Representative in Brookline, on the Democratic primary ballot Tuesday, September 4th. This endorsement comes with the support of the Greater Boston Labor Council (GBLC).

Steven A. Tolman, President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and former state senator, said "The AFL-CIO is proud to support Tommy Vitolo for State Representative for the 15th Norfolk District in Brookline. Tommy understands the needs of working families across the Commonwealth and will fight to make sure their voices are heard on Beacon Hill."

Tommy Vitolo comes from a family of union members, going back at least three generations. Vitolo said that "My great grandparents were immigrants. Unions helped my grandparents gain a toehold in America, just as they have helped millions and millions of American families. I'm proud to have the support of organized labor in Brookline and throughout the Commonwealth."

Representative Frank Smizik has announced his intention to retire at the end of his term, and has endorsed Vitolo to succeed him. In addition to the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and Representative Smizik, Tommy has also been endorsed by Brookline PAX, Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts, the political blog Blue Mass Group, as well as two thirds of Brookline's Town Meeting Members.

Vitolo lives near Washington Street with his wife Jennifer and their two children. He has served as a Town Meeting Member since 2007 and Town Constable since 2010. He is currently a Senior Associate at Synapse Energy Economics, a research and consulting firm specializing in energy, economic, and environmental topics for public interest and governmental clients. Vitolo is a member of Town Meeting’s Green Caucus and Recorded Vote Coalition, an elected Democratic Town Committee member, and served as Representative Frank Smizik’s treasurer. He served as the Field Director for the Yes for Brookline campaign in 2015 and as an advisor to the Yes for Brookline campaign in 2018.
