School of Fashion Design

Celebrating over 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Our technical Certificate program is taught by experts in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers. Our studios are filled with recent high school graduates, students from nearby colleges enriching their education with fashion, and working professionals embarking on a new career path. SFD faculty and students are active partners in our local community, collaborating regularly with organizations and businesses through internships, exhibitions, field trips, and special events. Our reputation for excellence is on display each time our students show their work at fashion shows and exhibits throughout the year. Whether responding to an emergency scene or transferring a critically ill patient between hospitals, our team delivers seamless, patient-centered care during some of the most challenging moments in a person’s life. Each year, Boston MedFlight provides more than $7 million in free and unreimbursed care, ensuring no patient is ever turned away. Every clinician completes an intensive onboarding and education program that includes hospital ICU and emergency department rotations, pediatric and neonatal critical care experience, high-fidelity simulation training, advanced procedural labs, and comprehensive classroom instruction in transport medicine. Our work is supported by a state-of-the-art fleet of Airbus H145 helicopters and Freightliner mobile ICU ground vehicles, each equipped with advanced technology comparable to leading hospital ICUs.

It’s a night of whimsy with music inspired by games. In Mozart’s Musikalisches Würfelspiel, dice rolls from our audience will determine the structure of the piece! We’ll dust off our old, battery powered, primary colored Simon game to perform Nicole Lizée’s Simon Interlude and play selections from György Kurtág’s collection of Játékok or quite literally “games” in Hungarian. Satie’s humorous and eccentric pieces about sports were conceived for a “haute couture artist's book" while Mozart’s iconic Kegelstatt Trio was written while lawn bowling! Winsor is excited to welcome composer and soprano Kate Soper to perform her piece Chutes and Ladders, featuring text by Virgil, diary entries, Markov chains, and board game rules. The New Yorker describes Kate as "one of the great originals of her generation.”

Join Dr. Katherine Gergen Barnett, family medicine physician, nationally recognized health equity leader, and trusted voice on the future of American health care, for a powerful and reflective talk on what hospice teaches us about caring for one another when it matters most. Drawing on decades of leadership in whole-person care, equity, and health system reform, as well as her personal experience with Good Shepherd Community Care during her father, Commentator and former White House Communications Director,&nbsp;David Gergen's&nbsp;final year, Dr. Gergen Barnett will explore how compassion, trust, and community can transform the patient and family experience and guide us toward a more humane and just health care system.

Passion, politics, and pulse-pounding rhythm collide! Martín Palmeri’s “Misatango” electrifies the Latin Mass with fiery Argentinian “new tango,” blending chorus, bandoneón, and strings in a bold, emotional ride that has energized audiences on several continents. By embedding tango’s harmonic language, rhythms, and melodic designs in the orchestra, Palmeri frees the chorus to simply “sing the Mass”, plunging the audience into a world of uplifting emotions, passion, and syncopation.
Opening the concert is Lamentations of the Prophet Jeremiah by Alberto Ginastera, an intense work written in exile in 1946. Setting Latin texts from the Book of Lamentations and with dissonant harmonies, jagged rhythms, and stark contrasts, Ginasteri’s music expresses profound sorrow and spiritual desolation.
Adding to the verve of the Latin American program are scintillating dance performances by Boston-based tangueros, curated by bandoneonist Alex Roitman and accompanied by a tango instrumental ensemble.
