Former Brookline Teacher Accused Of Raping Student For 2 Years

BROOKLINE, MA — A former Brookline teacher was arrested Monday night to face charges in connection with sexual assaults against a student, according to the Brookline Police Department.

Larry Chen, 36, of Newton, who was a teacher in Brookline from 2013 through his resignation in 2018, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a female student in a classroom at the Heath School over the course of two years.

“The victim disclosed that her social studies teacher had sexually assaulted her for two school years, beginning when she was in 6th grade and lasting until the end of 7th grade,” police said.

Chen is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon on 18 counts each of Aggravated Statutory Rape , Rape of a Child under 16 , Indecent A & B on a person under 14.

Police said Chen currently operates a tutoring business called School Beyond School LLC.

In response to the allegations against Chen, Brookline Superintendent of Schools Linus Guillory released the following statement:

“The Public Schools of Brookline have learned that a former teacher at Heath and Driscoll Schools, Larry Chen, who left the District in November 2018, is facing charges of alleged sexual assault of a child, which occurred during his tenure in Brookline. Chen also worked as a seasonal employee with the town’s Recreation Department last summer.
“While the judicial process plays out, we are nonetheless deeply concerned by these allegations and are committed to providing our full cooperation with the investigation into these charges.
“We were made aware of these allegations today after the Brookline Police Department began investigating a report made by an individual.
“Our paramount concern is always the safety and well-being of our students, and school counselors are available to students as needed to provide support. We have shared additional resources with PSB families.
