Harvard Professor Arrested After Shooting Pellet Gun Near Brookline Temple: Report

The incident took place on Yom Kippur.

BROOKLINE, MA — A Harvard University professor is accused of firing a pellet gun near a temple, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5.

Carlos Gouvea has been charged with illegally discharging a pellet gun, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and malicious damage to personal property after police responded to Temple Beth Zion on Beacon Street last week after a report of someone with a gun. One of the temple’s security officers working at a Yom Kippur event reportedly got into a physical altercation with Gouvea while trying to detain him. Gouvea claimed to be hunting rats with the gun.

No injuries were reported from the incident; however, police found a pellet lodged in a shattered front passenger window of a nearby car.
