Another Store In Coolidge Corner To Close

Pier 1 Imports in Coolidge Corner is slated to close this summer. Shanghai Jade restaurant, 2nd Time Around and Panera all closed recently.

BROOKLINE, MA — Coolidge Corner is losing another long-time business. Pier 1 Imports is closing up shop in Brookline after some 30 years in business. By the end of next month the business will join the list of recently closed in the area.

A quick locator search on the company map already does not register a Brookline store, employees said they were informed of the news a month ago and were offered positions in nearby stores.

Though it's not clear why now.

Pier 1 operates more than 1,000 stores, and closed four of them during its fourth quarter with plans to close more in the coming year according to several reports. During a recent regular earnings call, executives reported net sales decreasing, according to a transcript of the call on seekingalpha.com.

Despite a decrease in sales year over year,the company saw a 28 percent jump in e-commerce sales and speculated that the company was investing more resources into growing its e-commerce business, noted Total Retail.

This news come as Panera suddenly upped stakes. 2nd Time Around closed up shop and and Shanghai Jade restaurant, which seemed to struggle for a while, all closed recently.
