On Thursday evening the Brookline High School choreography class held a dance concert to showcase some of the different things the students have been working on. The students have a variety of dance experience, from hip hop to ballet. The class aims to teach them less about technique and more about thinking outside the box in terms of the different ways they can move their bodies.
"It's about going beyond what you know and what you're familiar with," says dance instructor Lynn Modell who has been teaching at Brookline High School since 1986. Modell encourages the students to go to several dance performances a year and says the choreography class changes the way they look at dance. Brookline High School student Stephanie Hung says the class is different from other dance classes she has taken because she finds she has to use her mind more with choreography.
