Pops in the Park

Brass-band quintet plays Olmsted Park to mark orchestra's 125th anniversary.

With the sun setting on a mild summer evening, a quintent of brass-band musicians from the Boston Pops Orchestra played a first-of-its-kind concert from a makeshift stage at Allerton Overlook on Sunday night.

The show, part of an outdoor series marking the Pops' 125th anniversary, included selections of old-time ragtime, Civil War-era marching tunes and turn-of-the-century jazz, among others. Though the Pops have performed elsewhere in the Emerald Necklace this summer, Sunday was the first time the fabled orchestra had taken its show to Olmsted Park on the Brookline side of the border.
