Read: Grateful Mother Sends Heartfelt Note to First Responders Who Saved Her Infant Son's Life

A Brookline woman's 11-month-old boy was saved from choking on a piece of fruit by police and firefighters Tuesday afternoon.

BROOKLINE, MA - Saving lives, protecting and serving - all in a day's work for first responders.

But for one Brookline mother, their work means more than a cliché.

Tuesday afternoon, police and firefighters in Brookline responded to reports of an 11-month-old boy choking on a piece of fruit. They were alerted to the Williston Road residence by the boy's quick-thinking 10-year-old brother, who police said called 9-1-1 and then ran down the street to alert a crossing guard.

According to a post on the Brookline Fire Department's Facebook page, firefighters arrived on the scene to find police officer Bobby Teahan in the process of attempting to resuscitate the infant. Firefighters and EMTs assisted Teahan and were ultimately able to dislodge the piece of fruit and open up the boy's airways.

He was then taken to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed to look for stray pieces of fruit in the infant's lungs, and released late last night.

In a heartfelt note to first responders, the unidentified mother thanked them for saving her son's life and lending a comforting shoulder to her other children, who were scared for their sibling.
