Skunk with Rabies Found Near Brookline School

Police said they found the animal in the Bartlett Street area.

Brookline police said a skunk found near the Michael Driscoll School tested positive for rabies

The skunk was found in the area of Washington and Bartlett Streets.

Rabies is a serious viral disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord of humans and animals. State law mandates that dogs, cats, and ferrets have a rabies vaccination.

  • Don’t feed or water your pets outside. Even empty bowls will attract wild and stray animals.
  • Keep your pets in a fenced yard or on a leash, and do not let them roam freely.
  • Keep your garbage securely covered. Open garbage will attract wild or stray animals.
  • Keep your chimney capped and repair holes in attics, cellars, and porches to help keep wild animals like bats and raccoons out of your home
