Suspect Leads Police on Foot Chase From Brookline to Mission Hill

A 27-year-old East Boston man was arrested Monday for breaking and entering and other related charges after a two-hour search of the area.

BROOKLINE, MA – Police arrested an East Boston man Monday evening after a two-hour search that culminated in a foot chase through Brookline and into Mission Hill.

Around 3:15 p.m. Monday afternoon, police in Brookline received a call about a suspicious man slowly riding his bike in the area of Sewall Avenue and looking into buildings. When officers located a man matching the description and attempted to speak with him, he fled on his bike, police said.

The man abandoned his bike in the area of Stearns Road and St. Paul Street and began running from officers, who chased him through several yards on Francis Street before losing sight of him, according to police.

About an hour after the first call, at 4:17 p.m., a resident of Stearns Road reported that someone was hiding under her bed and had just ran out of the house. Police said they pursued the man on foot through several neighborhoods in Brookline and into Mission Hill in Boston.

The 27-year-old East Boston man was arrested around 5:21 p.m. on South Huntington Avenue by Brookline Police with the assistance of other departments. He was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, receiving stolen property over $250, larceny over $250, resisting arrest and a disorderly person offense.

He will be arraigned in Brookline District Court today.
