Upgrades Coming to Brookline Parking Meters
Town Administrator Mel Kleckner's Parking meter task force announced upgrades to the "smart meters" in the coming week.

This summer, Town Administrator Mel Kleckner formed a task force to address issues with the new “smart meters” installed in Brookline beginning in April of 2011. The Task Force is comprised of Town officials, commercial sector representatives and citizens at large.
The Parking Meter Task Force met twice this summer and is scheduled to meet again on September 26th at 6pm in the Selectmen’s Conference Room, Sixth Floor, Town Hall.

According to Mr. Kleckner, “We’ve adopted a systematic approach to determinethe issues and identify potential solutions.”
Stage one of the Plan is being implemented this week. Changes include:

- Meter software has been reprogrammed to allow meters to respond fasterand reduce transaction time.
- Language on displays has been updated to be more intuitive for users.
- Preset time increment options will allow user to choose time quicker andwith less confusion.
Despite this important progress, Mr. Kleckner assures, “Our job has just begun and we are not finished making improvements. Our plan is to continue working at this until we have a meter system that works for the Brookline community.”
